Gamalakhe Lutheran Church - Gamalakhe township
(Two Tunics project enrollment date: February 2009)
For over 20 years, Pastor Mkhabela and his wife have opened the doors of their church to the children of Gamalakhe. In this church children have a safe place to stay during the day while parents are at work. A safe environment is necessary in this township where rape is all to common even among children. Two Tunics has provided support through teacher training, community training, supplies such as tables, chairs, clothes, blankets, food, and help with administration. We are pleased to support this project because of the longstanding commitment to children that they have shown. We have found very few projects that are run by a church. This one is a rare jem because of the willingness of the Pastor to use his building for children. Churches in this culture often do not see caring for children as part of their ministry.
Pictured here is Mrs. Mkhabela with some of the children at the creche on the church front steps.

Update May 2009
In March of this year Two Tunics benefited from a short term mission team's visit from Norhtview Bible Church in Spokane WA. The group of 7 ladies served in many ways with several Two Tunics ministries and partners. On a Saturday they presented a " Child Health and Safety" worksh op for parents and caregivers of the children of the Lutheran Church creche.
Children receiving their "UJesu Uyangithandi" (Jesus Loves Me) T-shirts during the workshop.
The children, parents and mission team all enjoyed the puppet show greatly! Music, magic and lessons on staying safe and healthy were all included in the puppet show.
