KwaNyuswa Free Methodist Church - Mahlabathini, Ezingolweni
Khula (Zulu name) means "Grow".
(Two Tunics Enrolled project - March 2008)
Khula Club is a ministry associated with the KwaNyuswa Free Methodist Church that was started by Pastor Joseph Ndovela. It is located in the community of Mahlabathini in rural Ezinqolweni. It is committed to taking care of the OVC living in the area. Khula Club has been taken on by Genesis, one of our partners in the Ugu AIDS Alliance. Two Tunics is helping Genesis with support for the creche and after school programs.
Update 17 March 2009
With the help of the Northview Bible Church mission team that served with us this month, Two Tunics hosted a community HIV/AIDS Awareness Education Event at the Khula creche site. Our partner Project Positive Ray provided HIV education around the issues of prevention, dealing with stigma and caring for those affected by HIV. This event had been a vision and desire of Pastor Joseph and his wife Jabu for almost a year. The NBC mission team helped with the children activities as more than 150 children watched the Jesus film children's version in Zulu and sang and danced to the Hillsong Kids Praise DVD. HIV testing was made available at the event after the education program.

Pastor Joseph and his wife Jabu meet with some members of The Porch mission team while women prepare a meal for the children at Khula Club.
In addition to the 40 or so children in the creche about 80-100 children come after school to be fed a nutritious meal. Many of these children would go to bed hungry if it weren't for Khula Club.
Through Two Tunics, Food 4 Africa is now supplying a nutritious fortified porridge for the children in the creche.
Two Tunics has donated sports equipment which the children enjoy as a part of the after school activities.
The preschool teacher and class in the church which hosts the creche. Two Tunics has helped supply school equipment and educational materials. We are also funding the teacher to be trained by TREE in order to be certified as a preschool teacher. The goal is to get the creche to a standard where it can be registered as a Early Development Center for children and potentially receive government funding. |
