Khandandlovu Creche Background

Pastor Eric Jila and his wife Bonisile started the creche at the request of this rural community. The creche is housed in the basement of the church. Since Two Tunics started supporting the creche it has grown from 34 to 68 children. The children are given a fortified porridge and a healthy snack each day. Donations of toys and educational supplies provide a stimulating environment for these children who used to spend hours every day with nothing to do.

In September 2008 this Community for Kids project was adopted by a home small group from Northview Bible Church in Spokane Washington. Their donations are providing the food for the children and the training of the teacher.

The Khandandlovu Baptist Church was excited because partly as a result of the facility upgrades made by Two Tunics when Northview's short term mission team was here, the local South African government has selected this site for a community feeding program. Six women from the church have been hired to cook and the government is supply daily meals for needy community members (although some days 200 people show up). The church has also been asked to start a coordinating a home based care program for the HIV affedted in the community.
