Two Tunics is working in the Ugu District of KwaZulu-Natal South Africa partnering with local pastors and churches to love and care for people affected by HIV/AIDS in their community. Two Tunics Mission is to share God’s hope for the HIV crisis by enabling, networking and strengthening community based partners to expand care and treatment of those affected by HIV/AIDS. A primary focus of our community based project (CBP) support program is to provide care, love and support to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). We are calling this program "Communities for Kids".
It is estimated that South Africa currently has about 1.2 million orphans as a result of AIDS. In addition, in many communities almost every child is left vulnerable due to the effects of HIV/AIDS, poverty and breakdown of traditional family/social structures. These are some of the millions of innocent victims of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Orphanges are not the answer and at least in South Africa are not allowed by the government except for children with special needs (disabilities). Most of the children are taken care of by the extended family in the communities where they live. Two Tunics goal is to support and build the capacity of the community to take care of their children in a way that maximizes the childs health and safety. OVC supported through Two Tunics "Communities for Kids" Program (updated 20 Dec 2009)
